These unusual earrings are inspired by the beautiful shape of the benthic foraminifera  Amphicoryna scalaris. Foraminifera are single-celled amoeboid protists living inside perforated shells. Benthic foraminifera live on the bottom of the sea floor and feed by extruding out of the holes in their shells and snagging smaller plankton and bacteria. Amphicoryna is an extant species, still living today, while also present in the fossil record.

Earrings are 1.1 cm (0.43 inches)  long below the loop and 0.3 cm (0.1 inch) wide.

The earrings are available in solid sterling silver or 14K gold plated brass, finished with nickel-free sterling silver or gold plated silver hooks to match, and are ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.

When not in stock, the earrings can also be purchased in my Shapeways shop, but without hooks or gift wrapping: Amphicoryna Foraminifera Earrings
