These earrings depict an important anatomical structure on the leaf surface of many plants, the glandular trichome. Glandular trichomes are common among members of the mint family, i.e, basil, peppermint and rosemary. Essential oils and other secondary metabolites are stored in the spherical head of the trichome. These molecules act primarily as a defense against small herbivores like insects, but they tend to have an attractive effect on larger herbivores like humans.
Each earring measures 1.8 cm (0.7 in) in diameter and weighs approximately 3.8 g.
The earrings are available in solid sterling silver or 14K gold plated brass, finished with nickel-free sterling silver or gold plated silver hooks to match, and are ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.
