This stunning pendant is inspired by the sea anemone, Aiptasia (also called Exaiptasia pallida). Aiptasia is a model organism for scientists studying coral reef biology because it is closely related to the stony corals. Like these corals, Aiptasia is zooxanthellate, containing symbiotic dinoflagellates which photosynthesize and provide nutrients to their host. For research purposes, Aiptasia is more convenient to work with than most stony corals because it can be fed independently of its symbionts, it can live as a single polyp instead of a colony, and it grows well in the lab. The pendant design recreates this important model organism, right down to its mouth embedded in the oral disc.
The Aiptasia pendant is 2.7 cm (1.1 inches) below the loop and 1.7 cm (0.7 inches) wide.
The pendant is 3D printed in solid sterling silver or 14K gold plated brass, finished with a 45 cm/18 inch long sterling silver or gold plated silver chain*, and is ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.
*While a 45 cm/18 inch fits most, other chain lengths are available. At checkout, write a note indicating your preference.
