Diatom Planothidium Pendant
- Free worldwide shipping to most countries
This unusual pendant depicts the diatom Planothidium. Diatoms are unicellular photosynthetic plankton that make complex shells out of silica. The shell of Planothidium identifies it as a pennate diatom because its shell is bilaterally symmetrical instead of radially symmetrical. Diatoms are found in both marine and freshwater environments and can form algal blooms under ideal conditions of nutrients and light. They are a critical component of aquatic food chains, serving as food for zooplankton and other small animals.
The length of the pendant is 3.5cm below the loop.
The pendant is 3D printed in solid bronze, 14K gold plated brass, or sterling silver, finished with a 45 cm/18 inch long rose gold plated silver, gold plated silver chain, or silver chain to match*, and is ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.
*While a 45 cm/18 inch fits most, other chain lengths are available. At checkout, write a note indicating your preference.
Please note: the video is a computer animation designed to show all sides of the pendant and may not accurately represent the color of the metal.
