Bee Orchid Pendant

This botanical pendant is based on the unusual shape of the Ophrys bee orchid. This wild orchid species has evolved its shape and coloring to mimic a bee pollinating a flower. Although in northern Europe and England the orchid self pollinates and has lost the need to look like a bee, in southern Europe this orchid uses scent and its obvious visual cues to attract bee pollinators. The bees 'mate' with the orchid, collecting and depositing pollen along the way. The Ophrys photo was taken in the Leutra valley near Jena, Germany, a nature preserve rich in orchid diversity.
The pendant is approximately 2cm long below the loop and 2.5cm wide.
The pendant is 3D printed in solid sterling silver, bronze or brass and finished with a sterling silver, gold-plated silver or rose gold-plated silver anchor chain to match.
