These earrings are inspired by Froebel stars (Fröbelsterne), the intricate paper stars that are folded as Christmas decorations in Germany. The stars are named as a tribute to Friedrich Fröbel, a 19th century German educator who is the father of the kindergarten concept. He taught pre-school children to fold origami stars to improve their manual dexterity prior to entering school where they would be required to master the use of a fountain pen. The stars have a long tradition in Thuringia and to this day people still fold "Fröbelsterne" before Christmas and hang them on their trees.
The earrings are 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) in diameter and are light and comfortable to wear. See also the Fröbelstern Pendant.
The earrings are available in solid sterling silver, bronze or 14K gold plated brass, finished with nickel-free sterling silver or gold plated silver hooks to match, and are ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.
