These lovely earrings are based on the rosette developmental stage of Arabidopsis thaliana. Arabidopsis is the model organism of choice for many plant biologists. It is easy to grow, developing from seed to seed in approximately 6 weeks, and has a small yet completely sequenced genome. This humble weed, often found growing out of cracks in the pavement along a roadside, has greatly expanded our understanding of plant metabolism and physiology. It is a member of the Brassicaceae, the same plant family as cabbage, broccoli and wasabi.
The individual rosettes are 1.7 cm x 1.9 cm, and each earring in cast metal weighs about 2.4 g.
The earrings are available in solid sterling silver, brass, or 14K gold plated brass, finished with nickel-free sterling silver or gold plated silver hooks to match, and are ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.
Other pieces in this collection are the Large Arabidopsis Pendant, Small Arabidopsis Pendant and the Arabidopsis Lapel Pin.
