This intricate pendant is an interpretation of the single-celled, ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena thermophila. Tetrahymena is found in freshwater streams and lakes. It possesses two distinct nuclei, a smaller one that directs sexual reproduction and a larger one responsible for somatic growth, it is an interesting model organism for molecular biology. Tetrahymena can be easily genetically manipulated by transformation and gene knock-outs and thus is used extensively to determine gene function. Tetrahymena move with the aid of hundreds of cilia on their cell surface.
The pendant is 3 cm long.
The pendant is 3D printed in solid sterling silver, bronze or brass and finished with a sterling silver, gold-plated silver or rose gold-plated silver anchor chain to match.
