These earrings are inspired by the unusual structure of columnar basalt, a type of igneous rock formed by rapidly cooling lava extruded to the earth's surface. By this process, distinctive hexagonal columns are created. Columnar basalt can be seen in many places throughout the world including the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, the Devil's Postpile in California, the Black Sand Beach of Iceland, and the Columbia River area of the Pacific Northwest United States.

The earrings are 3D printed in solid sterling silver and finished with nickel-free sterling silver earring backs. Each earring measures 1.8 cm (0.71 inch) in the longest dimension (top to bottom) and the post diameter is 1 mm.

The earrings are ready for gift giving with a gift box, polishing cloth, and care instructions.

Also available: the Columnar Basalt Pendant
